The Dread-Bearers are the Dakaverse's frontline responders to supernatural crises, serving as the bridge between the Ancient Pillars and the mortal world. Chosen to temporarily host powerful Higher Selves, they investigate Resonance disturbances, confront spiritual threats, and restore balance when reality begins to fracture.
Their work is governed by strict Celestial Law—but compassion, instinct, and impossible circumstances often force them to bend the rules they swore to uphold. Every mission carries consequences, every decision leaves a mark, and every Write-Up is a reminder that even saving the world comes with paperwork.
They aren't chosen because they're perfect.
They're chosen because, despite their flaws, they'll keep showing up when it matters most.
The Price of Service
The Dread-Bearers are the only mortals capable of permanently destroying a supernatural being.
It is not a privilege.
It is a responsibility no one truly wants.
Every Dread-Bearer sacrifices something in exchange for that burden. A dream fades. A relationship fractures. A lifelong ambition slips just out of reach. The universe always takes something back.
Scandal follows them wherever they go. It has to. You cannot police Heaven and Hell without making powerful enemies—or difficult choices.
Peace is rare.
Paperwork is inevitable.
And somehow...
they keep showing up.
The Burden of Bearing Dread
There are many afflictions in this world.
Dread-Bearing is the oldest. The deepest. The heaviest.
Only ten mortals carry the burden at any given time. When one falls, another is chosen. Their purpose is as extraordinary as it is impossible: to stand between humanity and the supernatural, ensuring that no divine power—celestial or infernal—exists beyond accountability.
Half-jokingly, and entirely accurately, they are known as the Divine Police Force.
Two Squads. One Mission.
The Dread-Bearers are divided into two five-member teams, each representing one of society's foundational pillars: Beliefs, Economics, Tribal, Technology, and Realism.
D-Squad investigates infernal corruption, exposes deception, confronts dangerous influences, and makes the difficult decisions others cannot.
A-Squad serves as its counterpart, protecting the innocent, preserving hope, and ensuring that justice never becomes zealotry.
Together, they safeguard the balance of a B.E.T.Te.R. D.A.Y., both in the mortal world and beyond.
A Delicate Balance
The Celestial and Infernal realms rarely agree—but they agree on one thing:
Balance must be maintained.
Demons confront corruption that angels cannot.
Angels preserve hope where demons cannot.
Together, their actions shape the moral landscape of both the living and the dead, while the Dread-Bearers ensure that neither side exceeds the limits placed upon them.
The Afterlife
Death is not the end of responsibility.
Beyond the mortal world lies a vast administrative reality where Heaven, Hell, and Purgatoria govern the spiritual order of existence. Far from static realms of eternal reward or punishment, they are living institutions that adapt alongside humanity, each responsible for maintaining a different part of the cosmic balance.
Though their philosophies often conflict, Heaven and Hell recognize a difficult truth: neither can fulfill its purpose without the other. Their uneasy cooperation has preserved the balance of the Afterworld for millennia, even as both continue to prepare for the day when fragile peace may finally give way to open conflict.
Between them stands Purgatoria, the bureaucratic heart of the Afterworld, where records are kept, judgments are processed, and the endless machinery of eternity quietly continues its work.
Order Above All
To outsiders, the Afterlife appears mystical.
To those who serve within it, it is an ancient civil service built on laws, procedures, investigations, and consequences. Every miracle is documented. Every supernatural incident generates paperwork. Every misuse of power invites scrutiny.
Because eternity, like any institution, only functions when someone is willing to keep the records.
